  Listen To Your Gut

Belly

Your belly may growl when you're hungry or hurt if you've eaten too much. But did you know it can give you advice too? That's because you have a second brain in your gut called your "belly brain."

This brain communicates with you--not with words or thoughts--but with sensations. Have you ever had a "gut feeling" that something isn't right or butterflies in your stomach when you're nervous? That's your belly brain--with it's 100 million nerve cells--telling you to listen. This brain is in constant contact with the brain in your head, relaying messages back and forth about your well-being and needs. Next time you're in a bind, don't limit your advice-getting to your best friend. Ask your belly, too.

3 Ways To Listen To Your Belly Brain
  • Notice if there's a pattern to your stomach pangs. Are there certain activities that make your gut tight or upset? What are they? What might that mean?
  • Become aware of fluttering sensations that may signal excitement and may mean you're onto your true passion.
  • Listen to your body, as well as your thoughts, when you make decisions.
