How to Create Powerful New Year's Resolutions!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Looking for a fresh start
in 2008? Lots of people want to make changes in the
new year, and their first step is to create a New Year's
resolution. The most popular resolutions are related
to health (get fit or lose weight), money (earn more or
get out of debt) or relationships (find one or improve
the ones you've got). But a whopping 92% of people
won't reach their ultimate goal.
So, what can
you do to be part of that successful 8% bunch that
knows how to turn their hopes into reality? For
starters, the people who achieve their goals have
something in common. They do more than just wish
for change; they actively plan for it. With a firm plan,
you can move forward long after your January
enthusiam fizzles out.
Tip of the Month
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's how to keep your New Year's resolutions
on track:
Get Specific:
One of the biggest mistakes people make when
creating resolutions is they're too vague, like, "I want
to relax more." A powerful resolution always answers
the question, "How?" How will I relax more? Here's a
better resolution: "I plan to relax more so I'll start each
day with 5 minutes of deep breathing or I'll listen to
soothing music each night before bed."
Write It Down: It's hard to stick with a
resolution when you're not accountable to anyone, so
be accountable to yourself. Make a note in your
calendar every time you take action, whether it's going
for that brisk lunch hour walk or adding veggies to
tonight's dinner. By documenting your progress on
paper, you can track how you're doing, and that gives
you momentum.
Plan for Slip-Ups: Change is often "one
step forward, two steps back." Successful people
know this. They don't give up if they mess up. Instead,
they plan for it. One powerful strategy is to enlist the
help of family or friends for slip-ups such as, "Chris,
when I want to buy something expensive (and I will)
can you say, 'Do you really need that?' so I can stick
with my resolution to save $200 a month."

Passing of Beloved Radio Host Tobi
Knight
I'm deeply saddened that my
friend Tobi Knight, host of the nationally recognized
radio show Sunday Journal on KOST 103 FM in
Los Angeles, died recently after a courageous battle
with cancer.
Tobi and I met when I was a
guest on her show in 2005. She was an amazing
woman and a kindred spirit who taught me so much
in the brief time we knew each other. I'll miss her with
all my heart. Learn more about Tobi
