Are Women More Stressed Than Men During the Holidays?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Shopping, cleaning,
cooking, writing holiday cards - who's in charge of all
this merriment? Chances are it's a woman. And
because women are usually command central for
orchastring the joy, they're often more frazzeled than
men at this time of year.
What creates your
holiday stress? One survey of American women found
the top culprits are: lack for time, lack of money, and
the pressure to give gifts.
Sound familiar? If
so, it's time to take control of this year's celebration so
you can have some fun. Start by setting new ground
rules, limiting your spending, and taking care of
yourself as well as you take care of everybody else.
Then you'll have a holiday to remember!
Tip of the Month
How to Attack the 3 Top Holiday
Stressors:
Lack of Time:
Because women have so much to do, they often stay
up late trying to get it all done. Then the next morning-
exhausted-they begin again. This sleepless cycle is
a big contributor to that stressed-out feeling you get.
Instead of sleeping less, try doing less. How?
Buy gifts online instead of going to the mall, send your
greeting cards online too, and cut down on lovely but
unnecessary details like wrapping gifts to perfection
or baking every meal from scratch.
Lack of Money: Who says the only kind of
gift that matters is expensive and comes in a box?
Presents that touch the heart are long remembered
such as a framed photo of a happy time you've
shared, a holiday letter explaining why you love this
person or a gift certificate for a homemade dinner in
the New Year. If your family likes to give store bought
gifts, agree to put a cap on the spending, or agree to
buy only for the kids.
The Pressure to Give Gifts: For lots of
women, shopping for the perfect gift can be a burden.
Instead of driving yourself crazy, you could announce
that this year, in lieu of gifts, you will donate to
charities you care about in each other's honor. Or,
instead of a gift exchange, you can come together and
bake cookies to bring to a shelter. That's the true spirit
of the holiday.
