The Secret to Healthy Aging ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why do some people age better than others?
Scientist Dr. David Snowdon wants to know the
answer, and he’s studying nuns to do it. Submitting
themselves to a barrage of physical and mental tests,
these generous sisters — ages 75 to 107 — are
providing extraordinary clues on how to age
healthfully. One secret to maximize your wellbeing as you grow older is clear — master your emotions, and you’ll age more slowly. That’s because stress takes a physical toll on your body and speeds the aging process. But you don’t need to be stress-free to age healthfully. No one, not even nuns, is untouched by the pressures of life. Rather, when difficult events happen, the healthiest sisters feel the pain, then use their considerable coping skills to bounce back. And one of their most effective coping tools is their strong friendships with each other. Their mutual support acts as a buffer to stress and helps them manage the ups and downs of living.
