My New Year’s Resolution: To Be Happier!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Friends,
How would you like to be happier this year? You can be if you make happiness your 2006 New Year’s resolution. About 63% of people are still committed to their resolutions after two months, which is pretty darn good considering most are made on a whim. To boost your chance of success, create your resolution thoughtfully.
To help, I’ve written several carefully planned resolutions scientifically proven to improve your happiness. Why not choose one of these resolutions below? The secret is to pick just one. If you try to add too many new behaviors at once, you’re more likely to fail. And while you’re at it, why not get a friend or family member to pick the same resolution. You’ll increase your chances of success if you’re working as team toward the same goal.
Tip of the Month
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Select one of the following New Year’s Resolutions to boost your happiness:

This year, I will:

(  ) Move my body in some way (walking, yoga, dancing) three or four times a week for 20-30 minutes.
(  ) Connect with people who care about me by getting together or talking on the phone once a month or more.
(  ) Meditate three times a week for ten minutes.
(  ) Examine my negative thoughts as if I were a trial lawyer instead of accepting them as facts.
(  ) When I’m upset, write about my feelings 3-4 days in a row for 15 minutes.
(  ) Begin tough conversations without attacking the other person.
(  ) Do something that matters to others like help a friend in need, take care of a pet or volunteer.
